British novelist William Golding once said “The greatest idea are the simplest.” Whether this comes from a hobby you enjoy, searching social media feeds, or chatting with a good friend, some of our best ideas are right in front of us - we just need to make them a reality.

Walk-in Kyle Grove, the brains behind the popular TikTok account themassgroup. Born out of the desire to create relatable and humorous content of people from Massachusetts, the group has seen a huge amount of success, illustrated in the 64.3K followers and 1.7M likes it has earned in under 6-months 🤯

Since featuring themasshouse in my last blog post, I got to connect with Kyle to learn about how this TikTok account came from a simple idea: “promote Massachusetts”.

How and when was themasshouse formed?

TheMassHouse was created in April 2020. Mario [Pizzi] and I had thought about making a TikTok group to post Massachusetts content in the past and one day I contacted Mario and said let’s do this. After it was formed, we contacted around 8 other creators we liked and that’s how TheMassHouse was created.

What does it take to be a member of themasshouse?

It really doesn’t take much and there’s no specific criteria to be part of the group. If we find your content, enjoy it, and all agree we should reach out to you, we will. There’s no specific numbers someone needs to join, it’s really about the content and persona you have in your videos.

What was the moment that you realized that themasshouse was going to be a successful TikTok channel?

I’d say the beginning of themasshouses’ recognition came from creating the account. Within the first few months, the account gained a lot of support and followers and it just kept going. In 8 months we gained over 60,000 followers, and since then we’ve kept seeing this success.

Did the inspiration of themasshouse come from the Hype House?

The underlying inspiration of this account was probably based on the Hype House, but at the time of creation we didn’t make the group based off it, nor did we really intend to base the content we produced after their content.

What are some of the ideas themasshouse has for the future?

For the future, we have a lot of ideas. A lot of the ideas we have would be post-COVID, but the ideas would for sure be fun to carry out. Some of these ideas we’ve discussed are vlogging a trip with all or a majority of the creators, creating merch, fan meetups, and many more fun ideas. All of our ideas are going to take time to make decisions on, primarily depending on the status of our state in terms of COVID, but hopefully we can bring some of these ideas to light.

Do you believe that influencer houses have a chance of being real money makers with brands like Jordan, Nike and other prominent brands?

Yes and no. For certain influencer houses, they have the chance to be real money makers with brands. However, I believe it depends on the content. For example, a group like 2Hype on YouTube could be a big money maker for a company like Under Armor or Nike in the future because of their content. Their content is primarily sports related so a collaboration between a sports brand and group would be good for both sides. However, in general, these groups and influencer houses are a rising thing. So in the future I think they could be big for brands, but I do feel like a lot of these groups would need to collaborate with brands for specific niches. A influencer house about Massachusetts collaborating with a nationwide brand wouldn’t be very beneficial for the brand because the groups niche is their state. Whereas a collaboration with a Massachusetts local brand or a staple, like Dunkin’ Donuts, would make more sense.
