Levain Bakery’s Grand Opening on Newbury Street
Levain Bakery, home of New York City’s most famous cookies, made its Boston debut yesterday, Saturday, Feb. 19, at 8 a.m., with the assistance of a brand new team.
Bostonians highly anticipated the opening as rumors about potentially expanding the brand to Boston started circulating years ago. Annalisa Colombo, the bakery’s general manager, said that lines started as early as 6 a.m. and only died down minutes before the closing time. At certain times, lines wrapped around Newbury Street and into Boylston Street. Colombo then added that some customers brought lawn chairs to wait in line for cookies.
Levain Bakery's Boston location had a successful grand opening with sales surpassing 7,000 cookies. Today’s profit is going to be entirely donated to Women’s Lunch Place– a local daytime shelter and advocacy center dedicated to providing resources for women experiencing hunger, homelessness, and poverty.
On a day-to-day basis, the bakery will be donating all its leftovers from the end of the night to Rescuing Leftover Cuisine– a nonprofit food rescue organization that redistributes excess food to persons in Boston neighborhoods experiencing food insecurity.
Levain Bakery will be opened daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 180 Newbury St. near the corner of Newbury and Exeter Streets. The bakery specializes in six-ounce cookies of the following flavors: Chocolate Chip Walnut, Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, and Two Chip Chocolate Chip.
Based on the first day’s success, Boston will be able to enjoy these gooey cookies for a long time! We recommend the Two Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie, if you try it let us know what you think of it in the comments below!
